'The film is a biographical account of writer Saadat Hasan Manto\'s life and is set in 1940s India. Nandita Das’ upcoming biopic Manto that stars the incredibly talented Nawazuddin Siddiqui in the titular role is expected to release sometime in the middle of next year. The film chronicles the life of late, Indo-Pak Urdu literature giant Saadat Hasan Manto whose work is still memorable. Speaking about the progress of the film and its release date at the opening ceremony of Jio MAMI 19th Mumbai Film Festival recently, director Nandita Das shared, “I am in the post-production of Manto.” It can only get better in the post-production. Editing is my favourite part of filmmaking. That’s where you correct all the mistakes that you have made. Aside from Siddiqui, Manto also stars Rasika Duggal, Rishi Kapoor, Swara Bhaskar and Paresh Rawal, among many others. Das was all praises for the actors particularly Siddiqui and Duggal.'
